System requirements
Before installing, confirm your machine meets the minimum requirements. Apple Silicon (M1 and later) is fully supported. Intel Macs with a dedicated GPU also work.
Download the installer
- Log in to dashboard.xrlive.app.
- Go to Downloads in the left sidebar.
- Click Download for Mac — this downloads the latest
.dmg disk image.
Install from the .dmg
- Open the downloaded
.dmg file.
- Drag the xRLive app icon into your Applications folder.
- Eject the disk image.
First launch & Gatekeeper
macOS will verify the app on first launch. If you see “xRLive cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to the Security section — you’ll see a message about xRLive being blocked.
- Click Open Anyway, then confirm in the dialog that appears.
This only happens once. Subsequent launches open normally.
Permissions
xRLive requests the following permissions on first use:
| Permission | Why |
|---|
| Camera | For visuals that use a live camera feed |
| Microphone | For visuals with audio input or beat detection |
| Local Network | For OSC, UDP, and audience interaction features |
macOS shows each permission dialog the first time the relevant feature is used. You can review and change permissions any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
If you deny camera access and later want to enable it, you must go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and toggle xRLive on. The permission dialog will not appear again automatically.
First launch
- Open xRLive from your Applications folder or Spotlight.
- Sign in with your xRLive account credentials or click Continue with Google.
- The launcher loads and your visual library is ready.
→ See First Launch for initial setup and display configuration.
Updates
xRLive checks for updates on startup. When a new version is available, a prompt appears — click Update to apply it.
